Epicenter location corrected by 2.8 km (1.7 mi) northwest towards February 12th 03:48: magnitude recalculated from 4.5 to 4.8. The depth of the hypocenter was recalculated from 7.0 to 0.0 km (4.3 to 0 miles). Epicenter location corrected 1.4 km (0.9 mi) towards SE.12 Feb 03:53: Depth of epicenter was recalculated from 0.0 to 2.0 km (0 to 1.2 mi) 12 Feb 03:57: Volume recalculated 4.8 to 4.7. The depth of the blast center was recalculated from 2.0 to 7.0 km (1.2 to 4.3 mi). The epicenter location was corrected 2 km (1.2 mi) in a WNW direction.

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake near Kastamonu, Sid, Turkey, was reported just 7 minutes ago by the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), one of the main international agencies monitoring seismic activity around the world. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 0 km below the epicenter early on Friday morning February 12, 2021 at 6:37 am local time. The exact size, focus and depth of an earthquake may be reviewed within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and revise their calculations, or when other agencies release their report. Earth Sciences (GFZ), which classified it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake, and based on preliminary seismic data, many people probably felt the earthquake in the epicenter area. It should not have caused major damage, other than falling off shelves, broken windows, etc. In Daday (population 5,200) located 18 km from the epicenter, and Kastamonu (population 70,400) at 20 km, the earthquake should have felt a slight tremor. A weak tremor was probably felt in Tosya (population 24,000) located 54 km from the epicenter, Taşköprü (population 17,500) 59 km, Safranbolu (population 35,200) 72 km away, Cherkish (population 17,800) 80 km away, Kankiri (71,400) at 81 km, and Khanjarah (71,400) at 81 km.
