a. Situation analysis

Description of the disaster

On January 15, 2021, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Magen, West Sulawesi Province, at around 1:30 a.m. local time. The National Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika or BMKG) stated that there was one foreshadowing tremor (3.1 M) and six aftershocks, the strongest of which was a 4.1 measurement.

According to the BNPB, three provinces, Majene Mamuju and Polewali Mandar, were severely affected, with at least 107 people killed in the earthquake – 97 in Mamuju and 10 in Majene – while 3 were still missing. More than 15,000 homes have also been affected, with the latest reports also showing that more than 71,000 people were initially displaced, with some sheltering in 335 IDP camps across the province. Overall, 99,827 people (23,248 families) were affected.

Government offices and private companies were also affected by the earthquake, as well as schools, markets and religious places. In Mamuju, a large hospital collapsed. Electricity and communication networks were temporarily disrupted, making it difficult to communicate with Mamuju at the height of the emergency. Communication lines have improved since then while road networks are now mostly passable.

Early in the afternoon of January 15, 2021, BMKG indicated that there was still a possibility of aftershocks at Majin, which could cause undersea landslides that could trigger a tsunami. The agency urged people to stay away from endangered buildings and coastal areas.

The government of Indonesia declared the response operation a regional disaster and emergency from January 29 to February 5, 2021, and the timetable for the transition from relief to recovery is expected to be implemented until April 5, 2021.

Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
