A 4.6 magnitude earthquake hits parts of S. Leyte

Cebu City, Philippines – A 4.6 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Southern Leyte Province at 5:43 am on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in an updated circular that the tectonic earthquake center is located about 10 km north of the town of Saint Bernard in southern Leyte.

The earthquake felt the magnitude 4 in St. Bernard. Density 3 is in the cities of Anawan, Hinonangan, Hinundayan, San Juan, and Sugood; and strongly 2 in Liluan, south of Leyte.

However, Phivolcs said no damage or aftershock is expected from the early morning earthquake.

At least six other earthquakes, with magnitude ranges from 1.7 to 2.8, have been recorded in the past six hours since the 4.6 Bernard earthquake.

Bohol also recorded a 2-magnitude earthquake shortly before 9 am. The epicenter was 11 km south of Mabeni town. / bmjo
