The Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School of Quito (IGEPN) reported a 4.3-magnitude earthquake in Ecuador near Cayambe, Cayambe canton, Provincia de Pichincha, just 9 minutes ago. The earthquake struck early in the afternoon of Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 2:48 PM local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact size, epicenter and depth of the earthquake may be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and improve their calculations, or when other agencies release their reports. It caused no major damage, but probably many people felt it as a slight shaking in the epicenter area. A weak tremor was probably felt in Cayambe (population 26,600) located 34 km from the epicenter, and Pimampiru (population 7,400) at 43 km.
