President Bidhya Devi Bhandari paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the 2015 earthquake and its aftermath.

The Gorkha earthquake, with its epicenter in Barbak in the Gorkha region, shook the country on April 25, 2015, killing around 9,000 and injuring thousands of people.

“Although the earthquake killed thousands of people and destroyed buildings, it failed to bring down the National Dignity Tower,” the president said in a message today, adding that “the post-earthquake reconstruction work initiated by the National Reconstruction Authority is nearing its due date. The last stage.”

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the Gorkha earthquake.

“Many of the damaged public and private buildings, homes, temples and monasteries are being rebuilt,” she said. “Completing important legacies such as Rani Bukhari, Durbar High School, Dasharath Stadium and Dharara are commendable,” she said.

She thanked those staff, the skilled workers and the donor agencies who had worked tirelessly as part of the reconstruction campaign.

“We are extremely vulnerable to disasters such as floods and landslides given the country’s geographical topography. Given this weakness, we need to build an environmentally friendly infrastructure to cope with disasters. I would like to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to build strong and earthquake-resistant structures in line with the building code,” he added. President Bhandari.
