Wondolowski scored twice late, and Earthquakes beats RSL 2-1

Chris Wondolowski scored twice in four minutes and San Jose Earthquakes beat Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Friday evening to claim their third successive victory.

San Jose (3-1-0) won for the first time at Rio Tinto Stadium since 2013, going 1-3-3. Salt Lake (2-1-0) was looking for the first of a three-game winning streak to start a season since 2011.

Wendolowski equalized in the 83rd minute after taking advantage of a rebound after David Ochoa had a hand on Carlos Fiero’s shot. Fiero’s cross in the 87th minute found Wondolovsky’s header to win.

Wondolowski has scored 12 goals in his career against RSL – his biggest goal against any opponent from MLS.

Rubio Rubin opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a lightning header with his chest, his back to the goal, by sending a bike kick past the outstretched arm of goalkeeper GT Marcinkowski.

Justin Miram hit the ball from long distance and hit the crossbar in the 17th minute for RSL.
