Italy warns of rising migrants to cross “tens of thousands” of Libya – BBC News

Italy warns that more aid is needed to deal with the large number of migrants arriving by boat from Libya. They complain that tens of thousands of people are waiting to cross the Mediterranean. The main entrance is the small island of Lampedusa, located between Sicily and the north coast of Africa. In recent days, more than 2,000 migrants have landed there in crowded boats run by smugglers. The situation threatens to overwhelm the island’s limited facilities and the EU is asking for help from other member states. Sophie Raworth presents Mark Lowen’s Ten Reports on Lampedusa on BBC News.
