Roy Suryo camp highlights Jokowi’s meeting with UGM lecturer friends, addresses potential witness conditioning
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Roy Suryo highlighted the meeting of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) with his classmates while studying at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Solo, Central Java, before the follow-up trial in the case of alleged slander and defamation related to Jokowi’s allegations of fake diploma with the accused Tifauzia Tyassuma or Doctor Tifa.
Roy Suryo’s lawyer, Abdul Gafur Sangadji, said Jokowi’s meeting with his friends, who would be willing to testify at trial, could potentially lead to witness grooming.

Therefore, according to him, these witnesses should not have approached Jokowi before testifying at the trial.
“In this case, there should be no need for these witnesses to come to Pak Jokowi. Just wait, when the prosecutor is summoned based on the summons letter, the relevant person will be present, maybe Pak Jokowi will be called first, because he is the witness the public has been waiting for to appear at the East Jakarta District Court,” he emphasized.
“And Pak Jokowi’s preparations for this trial do not depend on his friends, because in this way, the witnesses give their statements independently,” Abdul continued.
Abdul also said the meeting was considered inappropriate because it could give the impression there was an attempt to groom the witness.
“If everyone stays in contact with Pak Jokowi, it will end up being like we are being shown law enforcement, where these witnesses start to be conditioned,” he explained.
“Yes, if you want to stay in touch, please don’t do it now. Later, after Pak Jokowi and these witnesses have finished giving statements (at the trial),” he continued.
