Great Shake Out campaign and earthquake safety tips

CHENNY, WE (now Wyoming News) – Although most earthquakes are located in the western part of Wyoming, the Federal Emergency Management and Geological Survey of Wyoming wants everyone to have a strategy to stay safe.

In 2020, Wyoming had 1,483 earthquakes, and as of April, Wyoming had 315 earthquakes. So far, Wyoming’s largest earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 affected Lake Hepgen, with Yellowstone’s epicenter being the epicenter.

Wyoming is also located on a seismic belt between mountains, which is an active fault zone. For this reason, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has given the Wyoming State Geological Survey funds for the Emergency Backpack and Hazard Preparation Toolkits.

This coincides with FEMA’s “Great Shake Out” campaign and safety training. Working with Emergency Coordinators This campaign focuses on educating the public and distributing emergency supply backpacks, power banks and headlights.

They hope to increase the number of participants in Wyoming this year to more than 8,000 participants in the program last year.
