Walking in nature helping a lot in relieving anxiety during COVID-19
Canada’s Nature Conservation at PEI is encouraging people to enjoy nature outdoors after a recent study suggested it has helped a lot to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.
A recent Ipsos survey surveyed 2,000 people across Canada, and 94 percent said nature helped them relieve stress and anxiety during the pandemic.
About three-quarters said spending time outdoors had become more important than ever, and more than half reported plans to continue spending time outdoors to help spend the winter.
Taking nature ‘less well-off’
Lanna Campbell, program director for Nature Conservancy Canada at PEI, said she hopes the increased interest in nature and time outdoors will stay beyond the global pandemic.
“I think our renewed interest in nature, our new interest in our backyards, in the places we have chosen to live in, so perhaps by taking those lesser-known spaces, we hope for something that comes to mind. “
Campbell also hopes people will be more committed to protecting and investing in natural spaces on the Island, either through land protection donations or volunteering to help clean up natural areas.
