Region reports 57 new COVID cases on Saturday
The Waterloo Regional Public Health Service reported 57 new COVID cases on Saturday, bringing the total to 17,361.
Hospitalizations have dropped to 53, are being treated for the virus, and 24 are in the intensive care unit.
Active case load has been reduced from 24 to 461.
More than 75% of adults in the region have been vaccinated at least once, which is equivalent to more than 495,000 vaccinations. Over 118,800 inhabitants (25.35 percent) are fully vaccinated.
Other updates from the regional dashboard are:
- 3,627 cases were screened positive for the mutant strain of concern-3,074 cases were alpha mutants (first discovered in the UK)-11 were associated with beta mutants (first detected in South Africa) -167 is associated with the delta strain (first discovered in India) -61 is associated with the gamma mutant (first discovered in Brazil)-mutant detected 314 cases
- No new deaths were reported on Saturday, with only 262 local deaths.
