COVID cases in Stark County increased by 86 this week and deaths increased by 1.
A surge in new coronavirus cases in Ohio during the week ending Sunday, with 2,842 reported cases, an increase of 43.7%. Last week, there were 1,978 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Ohio ranks 35th among the fastest per capita spreads of the coronavirus, according to a USA TODAY network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Last week, cases of coronavirus in the United States increased by 66% from the previous week, with 226,012 cases reported. With 3.51% of the country’s population, Ohio had 1.26% of the country’s case last week. Nationwide, 50 states had more cases in the most recent week than in the previous week.
In many places, no cases and deaths were reported around July 4, so these cases shift to the next week, resulting in inaccurate weekly comparisons.
Stark County reported 86 cases and one death last week. A week ago, it reported 75 cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic, 33,621 cases and 937 deaths have been reported.
Carroll County reported 11 cases and one death last week. A week ago, it reported four cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic, 1,996 cases and 49 deaths have been reported.
Within Ohio, the worst per capita weekly outbreaks occurred in Muskingum, Gaul, and Lawrence counties. Overall, the newest case was added to 309 cases in Kaiyahoga County. Franklin County, 286 cases. Montgomery County was 229. Weekly cases increased in 60 counties from the previous week. The worst increase from last week’s pace was in the Kaiyahoga, Montgomery and Franklin counties.

Ohio ranks 35th in the state, with at least one vaccination, and 49% of its population is at least partially vaccinated. The national percentage is 56%, as shown by USA TODAY analysis of CDC data. The most used Pfizer and Modana vaccines in the United States should be given twice at intervals of several weeks.
In the week ending Sunday, Ohio reported 77,923 vaccinations, including 36,577 initial doses. Last week, the state received 78,432 vaccinations, including 32,612 initial doses. Overall, Ohio reported a total of 10,913,658 doses.
Throughout Ohio, cases decreased in 23 counties, most in coshocton, Paulding, and Monroe counties.
In Ohio, 57 people were reported dead from COVID-19 during the week ending Sunday. The week before that, zero deaths were reported.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 1,117,109 people have been coronavirus-positive and 20,437 have died from the disease in Ohio, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 34,079,960 people are positive and 609,019 are dead.
