CDC COVID Risk Map: Cook County may issue mask guidelines as data indicate “substantial” COVID-19 infections
County and state health authorities are considering increasing the number of cases that have not been seen in the months.
Dr. Rachel Rubin, Senior Health Officer, Cook County Public Health Service, said:

The Cook, DeKalb, Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle, and Boone counties have been added to the list of counties in Illinois showing “substantial” community infections of COVID-19. DuPage, McHenry, and Will counties are also at “substantial” risk levels.
In Indiana, Newton and Jasper counties have “high” prevalence. Racine County, Wisconsin is at a “substantial” level.

The new CDC guidelines recommend that all of these counties resume wearing masks indoors, even if they are vaccinated.

“Honestly, that’s a bit terrible, but it makes sense, but I want to do it like another shutdown,” said Kelly O’Brien.
County health officials say the only way to slow this rise is to vaccinate more people.
“The only thing the virus cares about is surviving … really taking advantage of unvaccinated people,” said Karen Ayala, executive director of the DuPage County Health Department.
Chicago’s top doctors believe Chicago will soon move into the “substantial” risk category.
“You’ll know if you’re watching this for the next few days,” said Dr. Allison Arwadi. “It’s no surprise that there was a formal announcement early next week, which is related to the Delta variant and the fact that it’s here and popular.”
Today, Chicago has an average of 190 new cases per day, and the number continues to grow.
