Fight Breast Cancer Through Real Men Wear Pink Campaign
Norfolk, Virginia-Forget what you’ve heard-Pink isn’t just for girls, and breast cancer isn’t just for women.
That final fact is one of the reasons the American Cancer Society is recruiting men to help fight breast cancer through the Real Men Wear Pink campaign.
One of those men is News 3 Anchor / Reporter Zak Dahlheimer, a recent cancer survivor.
Zack is passionate about volunteering at the American Chemical Society (ACS) and is honored to be part of the 2021 Hampton Roads Team Co-Chair Real Menwear Pink Campaign. His survival and experience story of a friend fighting cancer, especially breast cancer, fuels his desire to raise awareness and help others fight and recover.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, with the exception of skin cancer. According to ACSThe average risk of developing breast cancer for women in the United States at some point in their lives is about 13%. This means she has a one-eighth chance of developing breast cancer. But this also means that she is seven-eighth likely to never get the disease.
In 2021, ACS estimates that approximately 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and approximately 43,600 women will die of the disease.
Currently, there are more than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, including women who are still receiving treatment and women who have completed treatment.
All dollars raised through the Real Men Wear Pink campaign will help the Camaro for a Cause save lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, innovative breast cancer research, and patient support.
