American Academy of Pediatrics – Child Covid Cases Up, according to CBS Detroit
(CBS Detroit) – Since the pandemic began, more than 6 million children have tested positive for covid in the United States.
Cases peaked in September, with more than 252,000 children infected with the virus, according to researchers at the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Dennis Cunningham, a pediatrician and assistant medical director of infectious diseases at Henry Ford Health System, says children’s return to face-to-face learning and relaxed mask requirements contributed to the surge.
“That’s the cause and reason for this outbreak,” said Dr. Cunningham.
“Last year we set very strict rules for people who wear masks, so the school remained open without occurrence. There is no obligation this year.”
According to AAP reports, 46% of children aged 12 to 17 years are fully vaccinated in the United States, but the number of vaccinations is declining weekly.

Next week, the Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccine Advisory Board will meet to discuss an emergency use authorization for the covid-19 vaccine for children.
