Omicron COVID variant confirmed in three young adults in Boston, says Boston Public Health Commission
Omicron COVID-19 (new coronavirus infection) Variants have been identified in Boston, the Boston Public Health Commission said Wednesday.
The mutant was detected in three young adults over the age of 18, officials said.
First omicron case Massachusetts It was detected earlier this month in a female in her twenties who is a resident of Middlesex County.
According to the State Department, she has traveled outside the state and is fully vaccinated. She suffered from a mild illness and did not require hospitalization, DPH said.
None of the three individuals in Boston were completely vaccinated, officials said.
“Everyone experienced a mild illness and no one needed hospitalization,” the statement read. “BPHC is closely monitoring this situation and continues to work with city and state partners to inform them about policy and prevention efforts.”
The First case According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, a U.S. Omicron COVID variant was detected on December 1 in a traveler returning from South Africa to California who had been vaccinated but had not received a booster shot.

Boston authorities continue to encourage people to be vaccinated and boosted, tested as needed, and to wear masks.
“Vaccines and boosters are widely available throughout Boston and are provided free of charge to anyone who wants access to them,” the city said.
