Delays in Maui County, including booster shots in the definition of “fully vaccinated”
Maui County has postponed the enforcement of a new rule that defines “complete vaccination” as having received a booster shot.
The revised rule was to come into effect on Saturday. It will be postponed until January 24th.
This means that if someone wants to eat at a restaurant or go to the gym, they need to prove that they have done a booster shot.
Mayor Michael Victorino said the rule change was delayed to increase the time for people aged 12 and 17 to receive boosters.
New guidance The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extends the eligibility of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to its age range.
Demand for booster shots has recently increased on Maui, according to Victorino. Approximately 384,000 people received the third shot across the state.
The Reported status 3,586 new COVID-19 cases on Friday and 4,789 new cases on Thursday across the state. In Maui County, 337 new cases occurred on Friday with a positive test rate of 20.1%.
The county is 68% fully vaccinated. Of those over the age of 5, 72% are fully vaccinated.
