NH doctors say booster shots protect against hospitalization

New Hampshire doctors are discussing how to define “fully vaccinated” after new research shows how effective booster shots are against the omicron variant of COVID-19.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released three studies Friday that show that boosters dramatically increase protection against infection “I think it’s great data, particularly when we are seeing a more transmissible disease and have seen breakthrough infections.” both in those who were previously infected with COVID-19 and previously vaccinated, “said Dr. Jose Mercado, COVID-19 response leader for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. New Hampshire doctors said they’re seeing the same thing in their own COVID- 19 units. The majority of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated, but among the hospitalized patients who are vaccinated, few, if any, “Those who are vaccinated but don’t have the booster would still have higher numbers of getting the infection,” said Dr. Artemio Mendoza, of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.Doctors said the findings are likely to lead the CDC to redefine what it means to be “fully vaccinated.” “I wouldn’t be surprised if the CDC goes in that direction,” Mercado said. “We’ve already seen they moved away from using’fully vaccinated’ and’unvaccinated.” ‘We’re now seeing’up to date’ versus’not up to date’ with recommended vaccination. “In the meantime, the virus is still spreading, and overall hospitalizations remain high but are down from a week ago.” I wouldn’ t say that we’ve reached our peak, because I think that would be premature to say, “Mendoza said.Mercado said that if the omicron variant follows the same pattern it has around the globe, New Hampshire potentially has a few more weeks left in the current surge.

New Hampshire doctors are discussing how to define “fully vaccinated” after new research shows how effective booster shots are against the omicron variant of COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released three studies Friday that show that boosters dramatically increase protection against infection, serious illness and hospitalization.

One of the studies of omicron cases in December and January showed that booster shots were 90% effective for preventing hospitalization.

“I think it’s great data, particularly when we are seeing a more transmissible disease and have seen breakthrough infections both in those who were previously infected with COVID-19 and previously vaccinated,” said Dr. Jose Mercado, COVID-19 response leader for Dartmouth -Hitchcock Medical Center.

New Hampshire doctors said they’re seeing the same thing in their own COVID-19 units. The majority of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated, but among the hospitalized patients who are vaccinated, few, if any, have received the booster.

“Those who are vaccinated but don’t have the booster would still have higher numbers of getting the infection,” said Dr. Artemio Mendoza, of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Doctors said the findings are likely to lead the CDC to redefine what it means to be “fully vaccinated.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the CDC goes in that direction,” Mercado said. “We’ve already seen they moved away from using’fully vaccinated’ and’unvaccinated.’ We’re now seeing’up to date’ versus ‘not up to date’ with recommended vaccination. “

In the meantime, the virus is still spreading, and overall hospitalizations remain high but are down from a week ago.

“I wouldn’t say that we’ve reached our peak, because I think that would be premature to say,” Mendoza said.

Mercado said that if the omicron variant follows the same pattern it has around the globe, New Hampshire potentially has a few more weeks left in the current surge.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
