Traces of poliovirus detected in sewage samples
According to the Jerusalem Post, traces of the virus have been found in three cities in Israel, as two children have already tested positive for polio.
Traces were found in sewage samples from Beitshemesh, Modiin Irit, and Tiberias, according to the latest information from the Ministry of Health.
Last week, two children in Jerusalem were positive, and five more children were suspected of being infected with polio in the capital, the report said.
This is the first case in Israel since 1989. The Ministry of Health is asking Israeli parents to vaccinate their children if they have not yet been vaccinated against polio.
Polio is a highly infectious disease that can invade the nervous system and cause complete paralysis within hours. There is no cure, but it can be prevented with a vaccine.
