Indianapolis (Wish) — The first case of bird-to-human transmission of bird flu has been identified, says the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, a group of experts are skeptical about whether the incident was a true bird-to-human transmission.
News 8 turned to Dr. Shaun Grannis, Vice President of Data and Analytics. Regenstrief InstituteFor explanation.
“They are actually wondering if he just has the virus in his mucous secretions, but he isn’t really affected,” he said. “It is very common for the virus to invade the nasal passages, and although it can test positive, it does not actually infect.”
Granis says it was a poultry worker who was allegedly infected with the virus. His saliva sample showed a positive result because he may have been dealing with an infected bird, picked up the virus and touched his nose and mouth.
Granis also wants people to know that animal-to-human transmission rarely occurs when it is a true infectious disease, especially bird flu.
Anyway, he adds, it’s important for health authorities to closely monitor the situation.
