Monkeypox Monitoring Center was established

As monkeypox spread around the world, the Department of Disease Management (DDC) established the Public Health Crisis Command to monitor the situation around the world and set short-term, medium-term, and long-term response strategies.

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, DDC Secretary-General, said on Sunday that the center was set up in response to widespread interest in reporting cases of monkeypox, especially in the United Kingdom.

Confirmed examples of Monkey Pox have been reported so far in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Australia, Israel, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Greece.

Dr. Opus confirmed that no such incident had yet been discovered in Thailand, but acknowledged the risks posed by Thailand’s reopening to travelers.

The DDC’s International Infectious Diseases Unit reported that between May 1 and 22, a total of 13,142 people from the United Kingdom entered Thailand, along with 1,351 from Spain and 268 from Portugal. Monitoring of such arrivals has been strengthened in light of the spread of the disease in other countries.
