Early mornings may reduce asthma symptoms in teens, according to researchers

A new study could reduce asthma symptoms early in the morning because teenagers who stay up late at night are three times more likely to suffer.

Scientists have discovered that sleeping late at night and waking up is likely to suffer from both asthma and hay fever.

Dyspnea is strongly associated with your biological clock, but this is the first time researchers have examined how it is associated with people’s sleep preferences.

“Our results suggest a link between good sleep time and asthma and allergies in teenagers,” said study author Dr. Subhabrata Moitra of the University of Alberta, Canada.

The research team, writing in the ERJ Open Research Journal, surveyed 1,700 adolescents aged 13 to 14 from West Bengal, India.

Through a series of questions, I was able to classify young people into three categories. It’s the evening type, the morning type, the middle man.

The researchers did not reveal bedtime that would classify teenagers as morning or evening type people.

Comparing these results with symptoms of dyspnea, we found that those who preferred late sleep were three times more likely to develop asthma and twice more likely to develop hay fever.

About 5.5 million people in the UK have asthma, one of the highest rates in Europe, but the average UK bedtime is around midnight.

Professor Thierry Tolsters, chairman of the European Respiratory Society, said:

“This is the first study to explore the possible roles of different sleep preferences in teenagers’ risk of asthma and allergies, opening up a new and interesting line of research.

“Because we already know that good sleep is important for physical and mental health, we should encourage teenagers to continue to have a good night’s sleep.”
