DENVER (KKTV) – Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women and has a high survival rate if detected early.
Knowing this, the state is offering free Pap and HPV tests for eligible Coloradans to help save more lives.

This test is available through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environmental Affairs’ Women’s Wellness Connection program. The program operates in over 100 clinics across the state. The program is open to Coloradoans between the ages of 21 and 64 who have no or limited health insurance and demonstrate financial need. In addition to testing for Papanicolaou and her HPV, the clinic offers free breast cancer screenings.
“We are working to break down barriers to connecting people to free, life-saving preventive services across the state,” said Emily Kinsella, Wellness Connectivity Section Manager for Women.
Women between the ages of 21 and 64 are recommended to be screened for cervical cancer every 3 to 5 years. According to the World Health Organization, it is her fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, but she is one of the cancers with the best outcomes if detected at an early stage. The WHO says that 92% of diagnosed patients can survive if detected early. Jones Turnbough’s cancer was discovered by a routine Pap smear.
“For Jones Turnbow, the key to a successful recovery from a fatal illness was early diagnosis. After six weeks of intensive care that included radiation and chemotherapy, she was officially declared cancer-free. ‘ said the state health department.
