QEQM and William Harvey A&E departments rated as “in need of improvement”

The accident and emergency departments of two major hospitals in East Kent remain “in need of improvement” after undergoing the latest tests.

The tests were performed at both hospitals on March 3 and 4 of this year, and the results were published today (14 July) by the Care Quality Committee (CQC).

QEQM improved the Compassion and Leadership rating of the Emergency Department to “good”, but remained “improved” for safety, efficacy and responsiveness.

Dr. Nigel Acheson, CQC Deputy Hospital Inspector, explained the assessment. “While testing the East Kent Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, we saw many improvements at Queen Elizabeth Queen’s Mother Hospital.

“QEQM staff understood the vision and value of services and how they could be applied to operations.

“They have focused on the needs of patients who are respected, respected and cared for and have committed to continually improving their services.”

He continued: “Services were well engaged in planning and managing services with patients and communities.

“But at William Harvey Hospital, our main concern was departmental staffing and safety.

“Despite being caring for the caring patient, we found that on-duty staff were not always fully qualified, which impacted the quality and safety of patient care within the department. It was.

“This service did not always plan care to meet the needs of locals or consider the individual needs of patients, making it difficult for patients to provide feedback on care.

“People don’t always have access to services when they need them, and sometimes they had to wait a long time for treatment.

“Staff did not always provide analgesia to patients when they needed it.

“But our inspectors also found that the mental health support provided by trust through both services was improved, as was the pediatric emergency services from the last visit.

“Based on the survey, we gave reliable feedback on our findings and made the necessary improvements.

“I’ll be back to see these improvements made at a later date.”
