Currently, there is no cure. Instead, treatment focuses on slowing the activity of the thyroid. This can be achieved with radioiodine therapy that gradually destroys overactive thyroid cells. Drug therapy that interferes with the hormone’s ability to produce hormones or blocks the effects of thyroid hormone on the body; or thyroid surgery.
