Live Update: Oregon COVID-19 Death, Infectious Diseases Continue to Rise
The Oregon Health Authority announced three new COVID-19 deaths and 353 new diagnoses on Saturday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 14,149 people have been diagnosed with coronaviruses in Oregon and 257 have died.
In the densely populated Portland region, the number of cases continued to increase, with 149 confirmed new cases confirmed on Saturday in the counties of Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas.
Away from Portland, Marion County reported 31 diagnoses, Lane County reported 37 and Umatilla County reported 35.
The state provided these details about people who announced their death on Saturday:
A 78-year-old man in Marion County died at home on Friday after a positive test on July 14. State health officials said they were still determining whether he had an underlying disorder.
A 60-year-old man in Wallois County died at home on Thursday after a positive test on July 8. He had an underlying illness.
An 81-year-old man from Lincoln County died at home on July 4. His infection was confirmed by autopsy on July 15. He had fundamental conditions.
34th death reported in Clark County, Washington
Washington Governor Jay Insley warned that if the number of cases does not improve, the economy may have to stop again. Countyes throughout the state must stay in their current resumption phase until at least July 28.
Some Republicans want to consider Clackamas County individually
“Connecting Clackamas County and two of Oregon’s most urban and densely populated counties is unjustified, putting an unnecessary burden on communities and businesses already suffering from this economic downturn.” County committees have asked to reconsider this policy, and today we echo their plea.”
However, the Clackamas Commission declined to ask the Governor to reconsider the county’s application for further deregulation, amid a surge of new diagnoses across the state.
