The “PATIENT zero” in Los Angeles managed to win the battle against the coronavirus but lost almost all of its fingers.

“His body became septic; his kidneys failed and he underwent CRRT dialysis; his blood pressure plummeted and his blood flow diverted to his major organs for survival. He needed drugs to get him to work and his hands and feet were hungry for circulation,” she wrote.
“He spiked his fever and was covered in ice. His lungs collapsed four times and a chest tube was inserted, and he developed a common secondary infection in a hospital setting.

Surgeon David Kulber said Garfield lost his finger because of blood flow problems caused by a fatal bug.
“COVID actually affects blood flow because it affects blood flow in blood vessels,” Kulber said.
“That’s why some young people have strokes and why anticoagulation-the use of anticoagulants in patients-has become the standard treatment for COVID patients.”
Thankfully, the doctor can now treat the virus better than when he was diagnosed.
