New Delhi:Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has joined the Baradari fundraising project that aims to raise funds for artisans, weavers and artisans who have been hit hard by the Covid-19 lockdown and Cyclone Amphan in West Bengal recently.

The fundraiser is scheduled to take place August 7-15.

Khan took to Instagram Monday to announce his commitment to the project, saying it was high time people started to think about responsible fashion and turned back to “real fabric makers”.

“Everyone knows I love fashion. But I really think it’s time to start thinking about responsible fashion. India is a country with amazing textile traditions. We have to go back to the source of our clothes, the real fabric makers, and appreciate what they do for our culture and also our wardrobe, ”the actor wrote.

The Bardari Project, which seeks to bridge the gap between designers and artisans, was founded by journalist Namrata Zakaria. Its core team includes Tina Tahiliani Parikh, owner and founder of Together, and Pareina Thapar, co-founder of the communication strategy firm Long form.

Speaking to ThePrint, Zakaria said: “The fashion industry has a lot of social inequalities. Weavers, embroiderers and tailors are the origin of everything that goes into the fashion industry. But most of them are treated like day laborers. These artisans suffered greatly from the lockdown and Cyclone Amphan. So, I started this fundraising initiative.
