E. coli cases increase to 106 in St. Louis County
The Ministry of Health announced that two people hospitalized with E. coli infections have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a rare but serious disease.

According to the Mayo Clinic, HUS is most commonly caused by E. coli bacteria, and although anyone can get the syndrome, it is most common in children. With prompt treatment, most people make a full recovery.
Three parents of high school students are suing the catering company. The fourth lawsuit was filed by an adult who ate at one of the events and later tested positive for E. coli.
On Tuesday, the health department announced that people at all five events became ill after eating salads provided by catering companies.
State health workers removed the salad from Andre's South, the company's venue on Telegraph Road, on Monday. Test results are expected to be known by the end of the week.
Mr. Andre's owner, John Armengol Jr., remains adamant that the caterer was not the source of the infection, and the health department said the company is cooperating with the investigation.
Reached by phone Tuesday, Armengol said all employees have been tested and cleared of E. coli. Armengol said he will issue a statement once the lettuce results are available.
