US experiences national kidney deficiency despite improved procedures
Tyler, Texas (KLTV) – A kidney shortage across the United States has left people in need of new kidneys worsening, sometimes fatally waiting for years.
Approximately 90,000 people in the US, including children, are on the kidney waiting list. Every day, 11 of them die while on their waitlist. Donors may stay in the hospital for up to 48 hours after surgery, and then some restrictions on physical activity are given for several weeks. These include physical labor and avoiding driving.
