Colombia coronavirus cases have passed 600,000, with close to 19,400 deaths

Bogota (Reuters)-More than 600,000 cases of coronavirus in Colombia on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 607,938 viruses have been confirmed in the Andean country and 19,364 deaths have been reported. The number of active cases is 136,702.

At the end of March, President Ivan Duque declared a national blockade to delay the spread of the virus. The action ends on Monday, when the country begins its one-month “selective” quarantine.

Many sectors are already gradually reopening. The new measures allow restaurants to function with 25% capacity, but large events such as concerts remain banned.

According to local health authorities, the capacity of the intensive care unit in Bogota is about 73%. The capital is home to more than one-third of Colombia’s lawsuits.
