Local leaders say people must be self-isolated while waiting for test results
There is “deep concern” among local leaders regarding the increasing number of coronavirus cases in northeast England.
Leaders of the seven council issued a statement calling on people to help avoid a “catastrophic” blockade.
They say that the average number of cases per day doubles over a week, averaging about 80 per day.
Gateshead, South Tyneside and Middlesbrough are currently among the top 20 litigation cases in the UK.
This statement was issued by the leaders of Newcastle, South Tyneside, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Durham County, Sunderland, and the Mayor of North of Tyne.
They are particularly concerned with cases of young adults, say that in the seven days leading up to September 5, almost 66% of cases were people under the age of 30.
They said, “We all need to play our part little by little to prevent a potential second wave.
“The impact on our health care services and the potential for financially damaging lockdowns will be devastating.
