Residents of Saskatchewan reminded ticks to keep an eye out this fall

To obtain information about the types of mites and the risk of exposure to tick-borne diseases, users can submit photos of mites found either by themselves, pets, or livestock.
“Data received via the eTick platform can monitor the distribution and establishment levels of ticks, especially black ticks, and help monitor the risk of Lyme disease throughout the state,” said the press release. It was.
“Although the risk of Lyme disease is low in Saskatchewan, it is still important to take precautions against mites.”
These precautions include wearing trousers, long-sleeved shirts and shoes that do not expose your feet, pulling socks from your trousers’ feet, and wearing light-colored clothing to make it easier to find mites.
Other recommendations include a full-body check of yourself, your child or pet after going out, a shower or bath after going out, and wearing clothing treated with the insecticide permethrin approved over 16 years of age.
