Dementia, not fantasy: a child diagnosed with a rare disease
A 4-year-old girl in the United Kingdom was diagnosed with a rare and deadly illness, which turned out to be a form of “pediatric dementia” that was previously thought to be a fantasy.
Adeley Clark from Swindon, western London, showed symptoms associated with Batten disease-a clumsy child who seemed to be daydreaming on a regular basis.
But things got worse when Adelaie suffered his first seizure last May. In addition, doctors estimate that her condition can deprive her of sight, even forget her parents by the end of the year, and even die before the age of ten.

It’s not just a fantasy
Adelaie’s father, a youth worker, said they thought “she was just daydreaming” when her daughter’s symptoms began. He added: “The electricity is on, but no one will be at home.”

“Then she had her first seizure in May,” continued David. He remembered that Adelay was unable to breathe for 30 minutes before enacting the Heimlich maneuver and cleaned the child’s airways when emergency personnel arrived.
Adelay was first taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon and later to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. An MRI scan showed her brain was underdeveloped and urged her doctor to do more tests.

Batten disease
