“So there’s either an autumn / winter wave or a winter wave, the second wave. I can’t tell you exactly when that wave will reach its peak,” said the University of California, Irvine, Public Health. Expert and epidemiologist Andrew Neumer said.
“We experienced this big wave in June / July in the summer. Everyone remembers it. But it’s not a fad. There is a wave in this fad — plural. Neumer said. The wave, which now happens and disappears, hasn’t happened many times in a telephone interview on Wednesday. ”
Dr. Mark Garry of the State Health and Welfare Department said hospitalizations could increase by next month.
“We expect a 46% increase in the coming month, so it’s down from where we used to be, but it’s still an area of concern,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“Many states across the country, and frankly, countries around the world, are facing a wave of new incidents,” said Ghaly.
Dr. Thomas Sesario, an infectious disease doctor and former dean of the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, also said things seem to be recovering.
“It looks like it’s risen a bit, so I think the second wave is pretty likely,” Cesario said in a telephone interview Thursday. “I don’t know if it will be as bad as it was at the beginning, but I think it’s quite possible that blip will occur.”
“If you look at the curves across the country, you can see that the curves are starting to rise again,” says Cesario.
Dr. Matthew Zahn, medical director of the county’s infectious disease management department, also said he was expecting a rise.
“I think we all expect the number of cases to increase just because we’re in the cold and flu season,” Zahn said at a press conference Thursday. “The idea is that as the temperature drops and people get in, they flock more often.”
But Mr Zahn said it could be avoided if people followed current public health measures.
During the summer surge, at some point in July more than 700 people were hospitalized.
The spike occurred after a fierce mask debate at the OC, after former health officer Dr. Nicole Quick placed an order for masks before the resumption of Memorial Day.
Musk’s orders caused protests and public backlash. Quick finally resigned by early June After receiving numerous threats, including one supervisor Michelle Steel, who was classified as a “murder threat”.
According to the county, the virus has killed 1,434 of the 57,848 confirmed cases since the pandemic began in March. Healthcare agency..
Hospitalization is still awaiting, with 168 people in the intensive care unit, including 56.
“Basically, Orange County is just planning,” Neumer said. “There are many reasons to expect autumn waves, etc. Our summer waves were pretty slow, so the autumn waves will probably be a little late. We expect more waves to come.”
Steel State virus guidelines, Includes measurement of health fairnessThe required positive rate in the poorest district of the county is less than 5.2%.
“The top-down approach to mitigating COVID 19 from Sacramento isn’t working,” Steele said at a press conference Thursday.
“Despite the fact that Orange County hospitalizations are less than 200 per month … The state uses one size top-down and fits all approaches in all 58 counties.” Said Steel. “This is detrimental to our residents, small businesses, and the communities that depend on them.”
She said state officials need to abandon current guidelines and work with the county on localized guidelines.
“We need plans to work individually with all 58 counties to address issues that affect each county differently,” Steel said.
But she didn’t provide any details about what it would look like.
And most small businesses are open with large retailers and malls throughout the county.
Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm will not be open until the county advances to Tier 4, the least restrictive of state reopening guidelines.Dr. Clayton Chau, Mobile OC Health Officer I don’t think it will happen until next summer.. OC is currently on the second tier.
Steele and other county supervisors are calling for the reopening of Disneyland.
Ami Glazer, an economist at the University of California, Irvine, said reopening Disneyland would not solve the county’s budget problems that authorities wanted.
“Transportation has fallen by 46%. It has increased somewhat since July, but not dramatically. But it suggests that tourism will not have a significant impact if Disney opens. And I know it from Disney World in Orlando, “Glazer said.
However, Glazer said local spending has recovered a bit.
“In Orange County, total consumer spending was 8.6% lower than in January of that year and as bad as 35% around April, so we’re back, but pretty much from around July. It’s constant, not bad, but I don’t think it’s getting better, so my guess is that it will continue with that pattern, “he said, adding that there are similar spending patterns across the country.
He also said that people aren’t going out and spending as they used to, because the virus has shaken consumer confidence. It will probably stay that way until the vaccine lands, Glazer said.
When Disneyland opened, Glazer said he didn’t expect Anaheim to make a lot of money from it, as airline travel and tourism have fallen so badly nationwide.
“Anaheim’s municipality, much of its income comes from hotel accommodation taxes, and if people don’t come from another area, they don’t have much income.”
