North Carolina COVID-19 hospitalization reached a new high in a Monday report from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, but the proportion of people who tested positive rose again.
According to COVID-19, there are currently 1,996 hospitals, 96% of which report. The number of hospitalizations increased by more than 100 from the number reported on Sunday.
The state also recorded one of the highest positive percentages since the start of the pandemic, where the number of completed tests was much lower.
The positive rate on Monday was 9.5%. That number averaged about 7.4% last week or so. State health experts say they want to keep that number below 5%.
The state also reported 2,734 new cases and 21 deaths included in the number on Monday.

North Carolina health authorities have reported an additional 3,820 COVID-19 cases, for a total of 361,778 cases.
As reported by 95% of North Carolina hospitals, COVID-19 has set a new record of 1,885 hospitalizations. It has increased by 45 since Saturday.
