Wednesbury’s new mother, who gave birth 12 weeks early and had to fall into a coma after being infected with the coronavirus, is urging people not to die as a matter of course.
Eva Ahmed began to develop coronavirus symptoms at 28 weeks gestation.
The 28-year-old child had difficulty breathing and needed a Caesarean section after not responding to treatment at Walsall Hospital and was told that the baby would be born prematurely.
Immediately after she gave birth, Eva’s lungs began to weaken and she fell into an induced coma.
She remained in a coma for five days, during which the baby Ayra was taken to the intensive care unit with a small weight of 2 pounds and 2 ounces.
My lungs began to give up, and I didn’t know if I was leaving the hospital or in a blackbody bag, and I fell into an artificial coma and was exhaled.
Eva says she has come to the point where her treatment becomes very “touch and go” as she becomes unresponsive.
Her mother begged the staff to wear PPE and sit with Eva while in a coma, but she couldn’t because of the risk of catching the coronavirus.
Eva says she doesn’t remember much, but remembers that she had hallucinations and hospital staff were trying to show a picture of Ayra. She adds: “I think they thought I was rejecting her, but I didn’t really want to rub it against them. I couldn’t see or touch her.“I felt she would be taken care of as long as she was alive. I needed more recovery to be able to take care of herself.”
Five days after being in a coma, Eva began to breathe herself and was transferred to an isolated room in the labor ward, where she was finally able to hold a 10-day-old baby girl. Eva said it felt like a miracle when she first embraced her daughter.
“Aila was in the incubator, but she was able to take her out and enjoy her skin and skin time. She got caught right away. She’s really cute.”

She was “overwhelmed” when hospital staff applauded for her as she left, the day Eva was able to go home.
Eva “rings the bell”, showing the fact that she survived the virus, and says the whole experience was “very emotional.”
The world stood still for my family and loved ones, but they didn’t give up and prayed for me. I’m at home now and ask everyone who reads this not to take life for granted, so I wanted to share this part of my life.
Eva says the nurse who was taking care of her before she fell into a coma came to see her and saw how she was doing.
The 28-year-old, who never had to spend time in the hospital, says she appreciates the staff who took care of her and the positive “heart power” they surround her.
Baby Aiyla is doing well now, but she may be hospitalized until early February, Eva’s original date. About her daughter Eva, “She’s really cheeky. I can’t believe she’s already open her eyes and waving.“I don’t like her being hospitalized, and we’re not always with her, I’m struggling with it.“But I’m still quite dependent on my husband. I still can’t take care of her, I’m still healing myself. I’m still coughing ticking not going.“I’m scared of Aira. I don’t want to take anything to put my daughter at risk. I’m really protecting.“I was really careful during my pregnancy. I told the doctor:’How could I get her through this?’“But they said no one intentionally got Covid and it’s really hard to detect where it came from.”
