All nursing home residents and staff must be vaccinated with Covid-19 vaccine by the end of the month
Residents and staff of all nursing homes will receive the first dose of coronavirus vaccine by the end of January.
According to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, approximately 40,000 residents and approximately 30,000 staff in Irish nursing homes are expected to receive jabs in the coming weeks.
In a series of tweets yesterday, the minister said the launch of the first vaccination in the country earlier this week was a “big milestone.”

“The Pfizer vaccine has already been approved for use here, but Ireland has signed up for both the modern vaccine and the AstraZeneca vaccine,” he said.
It is estimated that approximately 7.6 million doses have been ordered or pre-ordered.
The launch of the country’s vaccination program “should give the country great hope in considering next year,” Donnelly said.
“We will keep you informed of the progress of the vaccine deployment,” he said.
Tentatively, the minister urged the public to “keep safe, stay home, wear masks, and stay away” in compliance with later public health guidelines.
“With everyone’s support, we can control the virus again. We will overcome this difficult time. We have a better day in the future,” he added.
Donnelly also said vaccination will be added to the existing Covid-19 data hub, which tracks daily case numbers.
