Teen caregivers claim that the water in the house “runs down the wall” and gets sick.

Steph Mason, 17, is still sleeping on the sofa because the roof of a public housing leaked.

A teenager says he moved to a property in Walker, Newcastle last June and devoted his savings to decorating and creating a nice home for himself.

But about a month ago, she noticed water leaking from the ceiling in her bedroom. It is now spreading to other rooms.

The only area left unharmed is the living room where she is now sleeping to escape the dampness.

Your Homes Newcastle (YHN), which runs real estate on behalf of the council, apologized for the delay.

Steph began to get worse in the bedroom over the New Year and said, “It was dripping on my head, it was really terrible.”

She states: “I went through the bedroom, the aisle, the bathroom, and the kitchen in that order, so I went through the house and it got worse.

“It’s running down the wall.

“I lived in the living room because I couldn’t live in the bedroom, but I’m afraid to connect to the kitchen and start from there.”

She added: “When I moved, I paid for the carpet because the floor wasn’t down. I put in all the money I could get into it, and now it’s all ruined.”

She said she has experienced cold-like symptoms and “swelling of the chest” since the leak began.

Steph added: “I wear full PPE at work, so I’m sure that’s the reason.

“I can’t afford to get sick. I work with vulnerable people. I don’t want to get them sick.”

Until the first week of January, Steph said that only joiners came to see the damage, “at first glance, there is nothing I can do.”

She said YHN told her that all the contractors were absent in the New Year.

The roofer visited Flat on Monday, but she added that repairs could still take weeks.

A YHN spokesman said: “We are aware that it took longer than expected to repair Morgan’s roof, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

“The work required was more complicated than originally expected and took a long time to complete, but we will arrange for the repair to be completed on Monday and do whatever it takes to resolve it.
