Orange County Solar Eclipse 100,000 COVID cases, 900 deaths
Orange County, Florida — According to data released by health officials, Orange County has now exceeded 100,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 900 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“I’m not completely surprised,” said Dr. Akinyemi Ajayi, who works at Advent Health in Orlando. “Frankly, we’ve made it happen. Orange County has a population of 1.3 million.”
Despite reaching 100,000, the county is moving in the right direction based on recent trends, Ajay said.
“At the beginning of the month, the trend line had a high number of positives,” he said. “Last week we calmed down a bit. Looking at Orange County, we see 600-700 cases a day.”
Orange County’s Florida Department of Health reported that a total of more than 2,000 people were hospitalized.
The number of daily coronavirus cases has declined in the past few weeks, with approximately 25% of Orange County intensive care unit beds free.
Vaccine news is a factor in the decline in cases, Ajay said.
“I think the risk-taking behavior of unvaccinated people has decreased a bit because we believe we can get the vaccine right away,” he said.
Claudio Gonzalez of Apokka, infected with COVID-19, warned against taking the illness lightly.
“To be honest, I was very scared,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales, who was infected with the virus in the summer by her sister and mother, said she didn’t know how she got the virus, but she felt the effects over the weeks.
“Getting a glass of water makes you out of breath,” Gonzales said. “You get up and go to the bathroom, it gets tired.”
