Iowa reports 250 deaths associated with the coronavirus.
Des Moines, Iowa (AP) —Iowa recorded 250 deaths associated with the coronavirus. This is the largest daily increase recorded by the state.
The state reported 4,901 deaths associated with COVID-19 on Sunday morning. That’s 250 more than the state reported on Saturday, which is significantly higher than the average daily deaths of 23.43 reported in the past week.
However, the 250 deaths reported on Sunday did not occur within the last 24 hours. Deaths included many from the end of December to the beginning of January, as it often takes more than a week after a person dies before the death is added to the state total.
Previously, on December 8th, when the state changed the way deaths were reported, most of the deaths reported so far were 198.
The dead reported on Sunday came from all over the state. At least one death was reported in 75 of 99 counties in Iowa, and no county recorded more than 20 deaths.
Also on Sunday, the state reported 757 new cases of the virus to increase Iowa’s total to 319,203 cases.
The number of hospitalizations due to the virus on Sunday decreased from 376 the day before to 358.
