COVID-19 vaccine is available from Monday for people with underlying medical conditions

Starting Monday, COVID-19 vaccination will be available to residents of San Diego County between the ages of 16 and 64 with underlying illness.

County director Nathan Fletcher announced last week, adding that finding an initial appointment can be difficult. The underlying medical conditions that qualify someone for a vaccine include, but are not limited to, cancer, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease, sickle cell disease, obesity, and Down’s syndrome.

A complete list of eligible ones County website.. Qualified persons do not need to present their illness documents, but are required to sign self-certification that they meet the criteria.

New eligibility is introduced as San Diego County is expected to move into the COVID-19 case rate deficit this week. The transition from the purple layer to red limits indoor operations in restaurants and gyms. It also means that more schools can be reopened.

The county has also launched a new media campaign to place TV ads in English and Spanish with the aim of reaching people who are hesitant to get vaccinated.

Currently, more than 26% of San Diego County residents over the age of 16 have been vaccinated with at least one COVID-19 vaccination, and 16% have been fully vaccinated. Due to the pile of delays in bookings, health officials say it’s okay to exceed the recommended six-week period for a second dose.

Dr. Eric McDonald, Medical Director of the County’s Epidemiology and Immunization Services Department, said: “And you don’t have to repeat the first dose-that’s a very common question.”
