South Australia’s First Mass COVID-19 Vaccination Hub Opens at Adelaide Showground, Reservation Required

With the opening of SA’s first mass vaccination hub, 150 emergency and frontline staff under the age of 50 will be vaccinated against Pfizer vaccine today.

The Godder Pavilion at the Adelaide Showground was initially a Pfizer specialty clinic and includes young adults and people with pre-existing medical conditions for early immunization.

Hub will begin administration of AstraZeneca jab from May 10 to those over 50 years of age.

Stephen Marshall of SA Premier said bookings are essential and can be done on the SA Health website.

“People have a lot of opportunities to book online and then come here to fill out all the forms and ask questions,” he said.

“AstraZeneca jabs are completely safe and effective for people over the age of 50, but move to Pfizer for people under the age of 50.”

Pfizer vaccines will be shipped in large quantities in Australia by mid-May.

SA Health also said that on-site parking will be free.

SA’s “third” in vaccine deployment

Despite recent weeks of reports that SA died last in the nationwide coronavirus vaccine deployment, Marshall claimed his state is now third.

“I don’t want to be competitive, but I’m doing better than Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales,” he said.

“Currently, the daily dose is 5000 doses, which will increase as we open this mass vaccination clinic.”

Health Minister Stephen Wade said the hub for mass vaccination will gradually increase, providing 3,000 vaccinations per week.

Another man was admitted to the hospital

A man in his 60s was transferred from Tom’s Court, a COVID-19 exclusive hotel, to Royal Adelaide Hospital in the past day.

SA Health said the hotel had been quarantined since arriving in Australia and did not come from India.

Hotel quarantine recorded two new cases, a man in his thirties and a man in his forties.

There are two hospitals in the state with the virus with 34 active cases.
