Johnson County combines food box distribution with COVID-19 vaccine clinic
Johnson County, Iowa (KCRG)-Johnson County hosted a food box giveaway and vaccine clinic at the Johnson County Trade Fair on Thursday.
The driver first picked up the food box in front of the parking lot and turned the corner to get the option to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
For William Sam, it was too convenient to let go.
“I received a text message from my children’s school that they are providing the vaccine today,” Sam said. “In fact, I jumped at it.”
People chose either the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the two-shot modelna vaccine. Volunteers handed out over 800 boxes of food filled with milk, cheese, chicken and more. Dozens of people who crossed the line were also raised to take care of the vaccine.
Royceann Porter, supervisor of Johnson County, helped host the event. She says it’s important to keep the COVID-19 vaccine available to people.
“It was great that people also got shots and food ration boxes,” Porter said. “I’ve put together a lot of people coming out, and if you know a lot of people coming out, give me that shot.”
The event was hosted by Johnson County Supervisor, Johnson County Public Health, Johnson County EMA, Johnson County Agricultural Association, and Team CAN.
Another food distribution and vaccine clinic combination is set for May 27, allowing anyone who gets the Moderna vaccine to easily return and receive a second dose.
