Douglas County reaches milestone with COVID-19 vaccination

Health officials say it’s a milestone worth celebrating, but there’s still a lot to do.
Dr. Anne O’Keefe, senior epidemiologist at the Douglas County Health Department, said:
“This is a great milestone and we need to celebrate our success, but we are not satisfied and we still have a long way to go,” says UNMC Infectious Diseases expert Dr. Mark Lap.
Over the weekend, Douglas County passed the midpoint.The· COVID-19 dashboard It shows that 51.9% of residents 16 years and older received both COVID-19 doses.

“We have immunosuppressive patients who do not respond to vaccines in a powerful way and may not be as protected as normal healthy people with a functioning immune system. Therefore, we are all ourselves. We have a duty to play and protect ourselves, “he says.
These local health leaders say they are ready to vaccinate the next 50% to help their lives return to normal and achieve herd immunity.
