A man bitten by a ferocious bat found in Sammamish – KIRO 7 News Seattle
Health officials in Sammamish-King County, Washington have warned residents that bats will escape hibernation when the weather warms.
On Monday, officials said Sammamish residents recently found bats in their yard.
A resident wearing gardening gloves picked up the bat and moved it out of the garden.
Bats were aggressive and bit the inhabitants many times.
Public Health – Seattle and King County were immediately warned.
Bats tested positive for rabies, and residents began receiving treatment to protect them from the onset of rabies, officials said.
This is the first bat in King County to test positive for rabies this year.
In 2020, the Public Health Service promoted rabies testing of 45 bats in contact with humans, saying that five of the tested bats had rabies.
Anyone who comes into contact with a bat should immediately call their healthcare provider and report their exposure to public health at 206-296-4774.
