Nursing home nurses have allegedly saved the lives of 13 people with dementia suspected of having Covid-19 by quickly setting up an isolation ward.
Mariasporin renovated a common area on Church Farm in Skylarks in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire when residents began to get sick in March.
Before each of the 13 inhabitants was quarantined, it was necessary to obtain the consent of the family.
Church Farm Care said everyone had fully recovered thereafter.
Using his previous experience as an intensive care nurse during the 2009 swine flu outbreak, Sporin came up with the idea of a home for a dementia care center.
“It was absolutely critical that we respond quickly and adopt these isolation measures as soon as possible,” she said.
“The decision to isolate the symptomatic person was difficult because we had to consider that the symptomatic person may not necessarily be infected with the virus.
“If you choose to isolate them, you will be exposed to the virus from people who test positive.”

In addition to the ward bed, the isolation area includes chairs and activities to help residents recover and keep in touch.
Of the 13 patients, 5 were diagnosed as Covid-19-positive and the other 8 were symptomatic.

Since the outbreak began, nursing homes in England and Wales have caused more than 3,000 deaths related to coronaviruses.
