Vaccinated travelers can skip quarantine, Nunavut health officials say
Fully vaccinated travelers to Nunavut no longer need to be quarantined, territory health officials announced on Monday.
This measure will come into effect on June 14. This measure applies to those who have final doses of a Health Canada-approved vaccine at least two weeks before travel. Vaccinated parents of unvaccinated children should continue to be self-isolated.
“Current evidence shows that fully vaccinated individuals are less likely to be infected and transmitted by the virus, and removing the quarantine requirement for this group would introduce COVID-19 in the Nunavut Territory. I’m confident that the risk is low, “said Dr. Michael Patterson of the Nunavut Territory. Chief Public Health Officer in the news release.
Vaccinated travelers must apply for a quarantine exemption in advance. They receive the permit required to board an aircraft heading to Nunavut Territory. Vaccinated people who are already in one of the southern quarantine sites of the Nunavut Territory Government can apply for early evacuation.
Residents of Nunavut Territory must agree to check vaccination status. According to the release, non-residents must have a “valid government document certifying the status of vaccination” in order for the quarantine exemption to be approved.
Travelers must continue to comply with all public health regulations.
