Germany will lift pandemic travel warnings in most countries from 1 July, said Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Friday, more normal as citizens are increasingly vaccinated against Covid-19. He said he would return to the state.
Countries that record 50-200 infection rates per 100,000 people in 7 days are no longer considered “risk zones.”
However, restrictions will continue to apply in countries with high levels of infection and in countries where viral variants are widespread, such as the United Kingdom and India.
“In the summer, hope and confidence return to Germany. In many places, the number of people infected is declining and more and more people are vaccinated,” Mars said.
“After months of lockdown, we can expect to be in a better condition. That also applies to travel.”
At the same time, the minister emphasized that lifting the warning should not be seen as an “invitation to carelessness.”
Turning to a variant of the virus, he warned, “In the summer of 2021, no one will be surprised by the pandemic during the holidays.”
As of Friday, the incidence was only 19 per 100,000, and in recent weeks Germany has relaxed most restrictions, including allowing shops and restaurants to reopen.
However, the rules for wearing masks in stores and regular tests for school children and telecommuting employees are still in place.
