Met Office responds to reports of looming UK 'heatwave'

The Met Office confirmed that a heatwave is not expected to hit the UK, but temperatures could still be higher than usual next week.

Reports of a prolonged period of hot weather in late April were ignored by the National Weather Service.

Instead, temperatures are expected to average around 15 degrees, with a possible 5 degrees higher in some parts of the south.

A Met Office spokesperson told Yahoo News UK: “Long-range outlook temperatures until the end of the month are likely to be near or slightly above average and noticeably warmer than they are today (significantly below).”

“It is unlikely that temperatures will be around 5C above average, but the current average maximum temperature in southern England is only around 15C, so it still does not reach the criteria for a heatwave.”

This week, the weather will be mostly dry and clear. However, the Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that temperatures will gradually rise starting next week, with parts of the southern and eastern regions likely to become warm or very warm.

The climate will probably be drier, cooler, and more stable in the west toward the end of the period.
